AI Blind Spots

AI has blind spots that can be exploited.

No AI is 100% Accurate

There is no AI on the planet that can detect with 100% accuracy papers that are written by AI. As such, we cannot rely on it. Using AI to detect AI is one of its blind spots.

Foreign Language Learners

Adult students who learned English formally as a second language outside the U.S. tend to have superior grammar skills and more formalized sentence structures than native speakers. As such, they write much more as an AI would. These students represent an AI blind spot when assessing for AI use.

Negative Accusation

Instructors tend to think they spot inappropriate use and jump to punitive measures. Even with 100% certainty (which we do not have), the risk of falsely accusing is not insignificant. This blind spot could spoil, if not permanently break, student / instructor connections.
